Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)

  • 1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast

  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup warm water

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

  • Vegetable oil (for deep frying)

Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast:

    • In a small bowl, mix the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. Make the Dough:

    • In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the activated yeast mixture and vanilla extract (if using). Stir until you get a smooth, thick batter. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

  3. Fry the Puff Puff:

    • Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or pot over medium heat. To check if the oil is hot enough, drop a small piece of dough into the oil. If it floats to the top immediately, the oil is ready.

    • Using your hands or a spoon, scoop small portions of the dough and carefully drop them into the hot oil. Fry in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown on all sides (about 4-5 minutes per batch).

  4. Drain and Serve:

    • Use a slotted spoon to remove the Puff Puff from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil. Serve warm, optionally dusted with powdered sugar.
